Federal government has confirmed air strikes on terrorist targets in the northwest of the country. Minister of foreign affairs, Yusuf Tuggar in a statement disclosed that Nigeria is engaged in structural security cooperation with international partners, including the United States to tackle terrorism and violent extremism.

Yusuf Tuggar explained that this has led to precision hits on terrorist targets by air strikes in the north west, irrespective of faith or ethnicity.

Tuggar recalled that the U.S. government had earlier confirmed it would send additional support to boost surveillance, security operations and counter-terror effort in the northern part of Nigeria, in line with established bilateral understanding that includes exchange of intelligence, strategic coordination and other forms of support consistent with shared commitment to regional and global security.

The minister pointed out the airstrikes was following President Donald Trump’s order on Thursday of the U.S. air strikes against ISIS militants operating in the northwest of Nigeria, guided by international laws.
