FG Approves 30% Discount on Airlines’ Outstanding Debts

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a 30% discount on outstanding statutory fees owed by domestic airlines to aviation agencies, in a move aimed at easing operational pressures within Nigeria’s aviation sector.

The decision follows a high-level meeting involving the Ministry of Aviation, the Airline Operators of Nigeria, stakeholders in the petroleum industry, and other key players.

According to the Minister of Aviation, the relief covers accumulated debts, including parking charges payable to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria and navigational charges owed to the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, as well as other regulatory obligations.

The intervention is part of the Federal Government’s broader effort to cushion the impact of the ongoing Jet A1 fuel crisis, which has significantly increased operating costs for domestic carriers.

The initiative underscores the administration’s commitment to stabilising the aviation industry, safeguarding airline operations, and ensuring the continued viability of domestic air transport services across the country.
