Vice President Kashim Shettima has called on African leaders to speak with one voice in condemning the ongoing xenophobic attacks in South Africa. Speaking on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 69th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government in Freetown, Sierra Leone, Shettima stressed that South Africa's freedom was achieved through the support and sacrifices of African nations, including Nigeria and Ghana.
He also disclosed that Nigeria has evacuated 1,490 of its citizens affected by the attacks and urged African countries to strengthen solidarity, protect the rights of all Africans, and work together to promote peace, unity, and mutual respect across the continent.
