Ahead of Saturday’s FCT Area Council elections, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has announced a work-free day on Friday, as well as restriction of movement from 8pm on Friday to 6pm on Saturday.
In a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the Minister on Public Communication and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, the minister urged residents to come out en masse to vote for candidates of their choice.
He said Saturday, February 21, will be a crucial opportunity to shape the future of the FCT, where eligible voters will have the right to exercise their franchise.
He, however, announced that with the approval of President Bola Tinubu, Friday, February 20, 2026, has been declared a work-free day to enable residents move to their various communities to participate in the elections.
This is in addition to the restriction of movement within the FCT from 8pm on Friday, February 20, to 6pm on Saturday, February 21, 2026.
Consequently, all security agencies have been directed to ensure strict compliance with the directive.
