The Kogi State Government has expressed deep sorrow following a terrorist attack on Iluke community in Bunu District of Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area.
In a statement signed by the State Commissioner of Information, Kingsley Fanwo, the assailants, who reportedly disguised themselves in military uniforms, attacked the community, killing three residents. Authorities have extended condolences to the families of the victims, the people of Iluke, and the entire Bunu District over what they described as a painful and tragic loss.
The statement disclosed that the attackers disrupted an ongoing examination conducted by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and attempted to abduct students. It further revealed that the bandits had begun marching the students into the bush before security operatives intervened.
The government commended the swift response and bravery of military personnel, local vigilantes, and hunters who engaged the attackers in a gun battle, successfully rescuing all the students unharmed.
One of the bandits was reportedly killed during the exchange, while others fled with gunshot injuries. The statement added that security agencies are currently pursuing the fleeing suspects and have intensified efforts to bring all those responsible to justice.
