FG reaffirms push for cheaper transport through CNG expansion

The Federal Government has restated its resolve to cut transportation costs for Nigerians by deepening the adoption of Compressed Natural Gas as a cheaper, cleaner alternative to conventional fuels.

Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, says over $2 billion has been secured in private investment since the CNG initiative launched in 2023.

More than 120,000 vehicles have been converted through 400-plus conversion centres and over 90 refuelling stations nationwide, with 7,700 technicians trained and over 10,000 jobs created.

The minister says commuters, transporters and fleet operators are already recording major fuel savings.

He commended President Tinubu’s directive for 500 additional refuelling stations, expanding the national network to 1,000, and urged more state governments to key into the programme for the benefit of ordinary Nigerians.
