Nigeria facilitates return of ex-Sierra Leone president Ernest Koroma.

Former Sierra Leone President Ernest Bai Koroma has returned to Freetown after spending more than two years in temporary relocation in Abuja, Nigeria.

Koroma’s return follows a regional diplomatic process aimed at promoting peace, reconciliation, and political stability in Sierra Leone.

Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, who escorted the former president back to Freetown on the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, described the development as a successful conclusion to the diplomatic efforts.

Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo also joined the delegation, underscoring Nigeria’s continued role in supporting peace and democratic stability within the West African region.

The Nigerian government says Koroma’s return is expected to further strengthen reconciliation efforts and contribute to democratic stability in Sierra Leone.

The development is being seen as an important step toward fostering peace, dialogue, and national unity in the country.
