First Lady Flags Off Incentives to Reduce Maternal, Newborn Deaths

Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has officially flagged off incentives under the Maternal and Neonatal Mortality Reduction Innovation Initiative (MAMII), a major intervention aimed at increasing the use of essential maternal and newborn healthcare services across the country.

The initiative is designed to encourage more pregnant women and mothers to access antenatal care, skilled birth services, postnatal care and essential newborn health services, particularly in communities where access to healthcare remains a challenge.

MAMII forms part of the Federal Government’s broader efforts to tackle Nigeria’s high maternal and neonatal mortality rates by improving access to quality healthcare and encouraging families to seek timely medical attention before, during and after childbirth.

The initiative also seeks to support safer motherhood, stronger newborn care and better health outcomes, helping to give every Nigerian child a healthier start in life.

As Nigeria intensifies efforts to protect mothers and newborns, the success of MAMII will depend on effective implementation, accessibility and sustained support for healthcare services across the country.
