Oyo Teachers Begin Indefinite Strike Over Ogbomoso Abduction

OYO PROTEST

Teachers across Oyo State have commenced an indefinite strike following the abduction of their colleagues and students in Ogbomoso, a development that has disrupted academic activities across the state.

The industrial action, directed by the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), is aimed at pressing authorities to intensify efforts toward the immediate rescue of the victims, who have remained in captivity since their abduction on May 15, 2026.

As a result of the strike, many public primary and secondary schools across Oyo State have been shut down, with classrooms left empty and school premises under lock and key. The union says the decision reflects growing concerns over the safety and security of teachers and students within the state's educational system.

Teachers are demanding swift government intervention, improved security measures around schools, and the safe return of their abducted colleagues and students. The strike is expected to continue until tangible progress is made in securing the release of the victims.

The action has raised concerns among parents, guardians, and education stakeholders over the impact of prolonged school closures on students' academic activities. Many are calling on security agencies and relevant authorities to act decisively to bring the victims home and restore confidence in the safety of schools across the state.
